General Information
Fish for bones along the many tidal flats and mangroves, or for larger species along the Barrier Reef. Target large permit on deepwater flats, chase schools of smaller permit between the mangrove islands, or sight fish on the largest tarpon flats in the world outside of South Florida.
Resident schools of 20 to 80-pound tarpon roam the flats of Ambergris year-round, while migratory fish in the 100 to 200-pound range arrives in strong numbers in late spring and early summer. It is also possible to find other species, like snook, large jack, snapper, and cuda. While the tarpon and permit fishing in this part of Belize is almost always done from the boat, there are some places where an angler can wade hard-bottomed flats while stalking schools of bonefish.
Boats and Equipment
Guides fish from 23-foot Mexican super pangas, outfitted with large and spacious casting decks and poling platforms for the guides. The lodge also offers top-of-the-line loaner gear and equipment, included in the cost of the overall package. There is a fully-stocked fly shop at the lodge where you can purchase flies, leaders, tippet, and other items.

“This is a great lodge. The staff is amazing, the lodge is very nice, the food is great, the bar is great and the fishing was really interesting and fun. I would go back there if I wanted another bonefish, permit trip.” – Rich H.
“Fantastic, as always. Belize is a fantastic fishing destination with plenty of opportunity for permit, tarpon, and bonefish. El Pescador is a beautiful lodge with great accommodations. But what really makes this place special, and what has resulted in me taking 3 trips here in 2 years, is the El Pescador staff. Every member of the team is cheerful and happy to help in any way possible. Within 30 minutes of arriving they all know your name, and you are treated like family for the duration of your stay. It is truly an incredible group of people working here and I already cannot wait to go back and see them again.” – Clair S.
“It was a great trip. We were there as a family of four, with the boys fishing and the ladies not fishing. Everyone had a fantastic time and would gladly return to El Pescador.” – Greg B.
“Great trip. The resort, fishing, weather and time spent on the water were ideal. We would highly recommend the trip, particularly for families and couples who would like to both fish and explore the area. There were many other services, sites and experiences offered.” – Ami B.
“This was one of our favorite vacations. We loved Belize and the El Pescador experience was fantastic! The staff at El Pescador really goes the extra mile to make sure your trip is great. We will definitely return!” – Jason S.
“El Pescador offers five-star hospitality with incredible fishing regardless of skill level. You truly feel like family upon arrival. You know it’s a good trip when you start searching for property in the area!” – Kayla P.
“This was my wife and kids’ first trip to Belize and saltwater flats fishing. We all loved the lodge and the staff. They were very warm, welcoming, and provided great service. The lodge and amenities were excellent. The staff provided excellent recommendations of things to do on our non-flats fishing days. These side experiences were super fun and provided some of our highlights of the week. My wife had essentially never fly-fished before and she caught a bonefish. My kids all caught bonefish (the first for two of them) and collectively they caught a grand slam during the week. My 17-year son got the permit and my 13-year daughter the tarpon. I could not be happier with your recommendation to visit El Pescador. We are already talking of a repeat trip sometime next year.” – Michael H.
“Great as always, we will return soon. El Pescador goes out of the way to make sure you leave as part of the family. Extremely accommodating and the best fishing guides in the world. Their passion, knowledge, and patience on the water cannot be beaten.” – Kelsey R.
