Cutthroat trout are native to the waters of the U.S. Rockies and there are numerous subspecies. They are known for their distinctive red, orange, or pink slashes on the lower sides of their throats, which resemble small "cut" marks and give them their name. These fish have a rich history and are valued by anglers, conservationists, and researchers alike.
