General Information
A typical trip begins with a flight into Phillip Goldston International Airport (BZE) in Belize City where anglers will be met by a Rising Tide representative and transferred to the boat. After a meal at the marina, the Rising Tide departs to the first evening’s anchorage, an hour or two away among the mangrove islands. Usually, there is time for fishing in the evening of the first day. That evening, anglers will have the first of many delicious and memorable Belizean dinners aboard the Rising Tide prepared by Chef Velda.
After coffee the following morning, anglers step into skiffs between 6:00 and 6:30 am and are typically fishing within 10 minutes. After the morning session, anglers return back to the Rising Tide for a full breakfast. After breakfast, anglers will depart for the midday session which will last until the early afternoon when anglers return back to the mothership for lunch. After lunch, it’s back onto the water until dark or after. This is a great option for anglers wanting to maximize time on the water and fish from sun up to sundown. Anglers then return back to the Rising Tide for a Belikin beer or rum drink and another impressive dinner. This schedule can be modified based on the interests of the clients. Time can be set aside for excursions to nearby islands, snorkeling, or just relaxing. Trips often include excursions to the islands of Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker if guests are interested. The crew and the itinerary are flexible. The crew is hardworking, experienced, and genuinely interested in helping all clients enjoy their trip. They are patient and productive with all skill levels as trips often include family members with interests other than fishing.
Most trips begin and end in Belize City, although “one-way” custom trips can be scheduled as well. This is common with permit trips to the southern waters of the country. (*There is a fuel surcharge for permit-focused trips heading south from Belize City.) The Rising Tide typically is booked for full-week trips, although longer or shorter stays may be accommodated. During a week-long trip, the Rising Tide will be anchored at three or four different fishing destinations within the following fisheries of Belize:
Around Belize City
This area provides a year-round population of tarpon, bonefish, snook, and permit. Tarpon can be found in the rivers and creeks near the city as well as cruising the flats. There is a strong concentration of bonefish and snook, and permit can be targeted on the right tides.
Ambergris Caye
20 miles northeast of Belize City between the mainland and the reef lies Ambergris Caye. The Caye is better known for its busy city of San Pedro. Aside from the bars, clubs, and tourists of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye offers a fantastic bonefish population. It’s not uncommon to see hundreds of tailing bonefish in just one-morning session. In addition, there are beautiful white flats around this Caye to hunt schools of permit that feed on the changing tides as well as opportunities for tarpon.
Long Caye
This area south of Ambergris Caye provides one of the most diverse fisheries in Belize. There are many large flats and lagoons for bonefish. Anglers search for juvenile tarpon and snook around the mangroves or head out to the reef to hunt for permit and large tarpon. On the “Tarpon Highway” or “Miami Beach” anglers can spot tarpon, permit, barracuda, and cobia swimming over powder white sand from over 100 yards away. Long Caye, particularly close to the barrier reef, holds some of the largest permit we have seen throughout the country, it is a great option for someone looking to target large permit.
Robinson Point and south to Placencia
Robinson Point is located 5 miles south of Belize City. The fishing grounds around Robinson Point contain large rolling tarpon and fantastic permit fishing. On a good day, guests can expect multiple shots at permit. The fishing grounds from Robinson Point south past Dangriga to Placencia are considered to hold some of the largest concentrations of permit in Belize, it is often referred to as “Permit Alley.” If you are dedicated to targeting permit, this is a great option.
The Rising Tide provides the finest flats fishing, live-aboard adventure, and value in all of Belize. It is an experience like no other in the region and also the only live-aboard operation currently operating in Belize.
Boats and Equipment
The Rising Tide accesses different fishing locations throughout the course of a week while towing traditional-style pangas for daily fishing and access to the flats. Anglers fish each day from 23-foot pangas equipped with 40 HP Yamaha outboards. These boats provide a stable fishing platform and a comfortable ride to target the variety of species found within Belize’s waters.
