Lodging Details
Blue Horizon Lodge sits in one of the most ideal locations on the planet to start and end a day of permit fishing. The Lodge is located on a seven-acre island, locally referred to as Northeast Caye. The Lodge offers single (upgrade required) or double occupancy rooms and was built from reclaimed lumber from the original lodge. The modern facility provides anglers with an inviting, comfortable environment to enjoy right along some of the world's most historic permit flats.
There are five guest cabanas with two full-size beds and a private bath with hot water (on demand) and showers. All rooms have air conditioning and the dining area is open-air or shuttered depending on the weather. Rod racks and other organizational tools cover the walls of each room, catering to anglers that use the room for keeping gear situated, cleaned, and prepped for long days on the water. A large deck on the property is perfect for enjoying your beverage of choice like a cold Belikin, rum drink, or glass bottle of Coke.
Food and Beverages
Meals are home-cooked and prepared in the main kitchen. Self-serve coffee is available starting at 5:00 AM each day. Breakfast is a continental style to offer maximum flexibility for anglers. Guides will pack lunches for mid-day high tides and often return to eat lunch at the Lodge for mid-day lows (when permit fishing is generally least optimal). The wonderful culinary team serves three-course dinners in the evening initiated by hors d’oeuvres. The menu is a combination of fresh seafood, and traditional Belizean cuisine including chicken, pork, rice and beans, fresh vegetables, and fantastic tortillas. Often, guests enjoy produce and meats from small, local farms on the mainland.
The bar area at Blue Horizon Lodge includes domestic beverages as part of the package, including ice-cold Belikins and cocktails. If you would like specific alcohol or other drinks, please let us know in advance and the Lodge will do their best to provide this alcohol for you at a nominal charge. If you want an 18-year-old single malt, pack it in your checked luggage.
Typical Length of Stay
Blue Horizon Lodge accepts stays as short as four (4) nights and three (3) days of fishing. Trips of any length can be accommodated. Contact Yellow Dog for your customized itinerary.
Non-Angling Activities and Options
Blue Horizon Lodge focuses on chasing permit, tarpon, and bonefish. We recommend a combination trip with another property if you are interested in other activities.
Internet / Communications
Wi-Fi is available free of charge for lodge guests. Please bring your own laptop or smartphone to access the internet. Depending on your service plan, some cell phones will also work in the area.
How to Get There
International flights to Belize City’s Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE) go through Miami, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Newark, Chicago, and Charlotte. The major airlines that are currently servicing and will be flying to Belize in the immediate future are American Airlines, United, Delta, Southwest, and Alaska Airlines.
Arrival and Departure Details / Times
It is best to arrive at Belize City’s Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE) before 3:00 PM in order to make your necessary domestic connections and allow ample in-country travel time to Placencia, Belize. After arrival in Placencia, you will be transferred by van up to the Placencia Dock before taking a boat charter to the island. Your round-trip flights from Belize International Airport to Placencia are NOT included in your trip package, but Yellow Dog will be happy to arrange them. On your departure day, it is best to book a departure flight after 11:00AM local time to allow for ample time to return to Belize City.

Citizens of the U.S., the British Commonwealth, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, and the European Community are NOT required to have Visas.
Minors Traveling To Belize Without Both Parents
If you are planning on traveling with minors, remember that all children 18 years of age or younger entering Belize accompanied by only one parent or legal guardian must have a NOTARIZED letter of consent from the other parent stating the child/children have his/her permission to enter the country. General Information
For anglers focusing on permit, the waters of Southern Belize are arguably the finest in saltwater fly fishing. While other species are found throughout the area, the Blue Horizon team was founded on and maintains a focus on permit. There are hundreds of prime permit flats in the area, many less than thirty minutes from the Lodge after Lincoln Westby’s precise planning to plant his lodge in the heart of prime permit fishing with access to tarpon and a few bonefish flats. This is permit fishing in the traditional sense – tailing fish in skinny water or feeding along the edges of flats as the tides drop. This style of fishing is the most technical and in our minds, the purest form of targetting permit on the fly. The guides optimize the tides, wind, and sun each day to provide the greatest number of shots possible for guests.
Boats and Equipment
The famed Blue Horizon guide staff operate 23-foot traditional pangas. These boats are ideal for poling the numerous flats within the fishery as well as running over open water. Some guides poll from the stern while others use a platform. They offer plenty of space as well as a great vantage point for spotting fish while poling the flats of southern Belize. There is limited rental equipment available at Blue Horizon, however, we recommend all anglers bring their own equipment, flies, and terminal tackle.

"The rooms were excellent and the beds comfortable to sleep in. The main lodge is a good size and well designed to match the number of guests. Meals were excellent. We rotated the guides through our group and I enjoyed working with all of them. It was good to see Lincoln work with Damon getting him well on his way to being a good guide. " - Tony B.
