Lodging Details
Accommodations are not included with these Fly Fishing Day Trips near Thermopolis, Cody, or Billings. For travelers planning to overnight in the area, we can recommend some local hotel, resort, or guest ranch options across many budgets and with various amenities.
Food and Beverages
Your guide will provide a packed cooler with lunch and assorted beverages, including water. Beer and alcohol are not included. Lunches are often had stream-side with tables and chairs or enjoyed while sitting in the boat enjoying the scenery.
Typical Length of Fishing Day
The standard fishing day is six to eight hours long, with most guides amenable to varying times to suit your needs. Typical days have you departing between 7 and 8 AM and returning between 4 and 6 PM.
Where To Meet Your Guide
Most Thermopolis, Cody, or Billings fly fishing day trips will meet at your lodging, a local fly shop, or a pre-determined common meeting place. Meeting place and times will be well communicated prior to the start of your Montana fly fishing trip
How To Get There
Anglers will need a car to travel to meet their guide on or near the river. The Bighorn in Montana is located approximately 90 minutes from Billings, Montana. The Bighorn River in Wyoming is a little over an hour from Cody, Wyoming near the East Entrance to Yellowstone National Park, yet flows through the small town of Thermopolis, Wyoming. The Bighorn River in Montana flows north from the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area.

General Information
Even within a single day of guided fishing on the Bighorn River in Wyoming or Montana, an angler has options to experience a diverse fishery. Ideally suited for anglers of all abilities the Bighorn offers both beautiful scenery and ample opportunities for wild and native trout on dry and subsurface flies. All guides are safe, professional, and knowledgeable.
Boats and Equipment
Guides fish from specially designed boats and rafts meant for fly fishing rivers in Wyoming and Montana. These fishing trips most often include the use of quality gear and equipment, including rods and reels, leaders and tippet, and all necessary flies.
Package Rates
Remember that Yellow Dog’s services are completely free! When you book a trip with Yellow Dog, you never pay more than when you book directly with the lodge or outfitter. All prices listed below are quoted in US dollars.

Travel Arrangements
Day Trip Payment & Cancellation Policy for Cruise Ship Travelers: Deposits and Payment are refundable, minus a $25.00 cancellation fee, only if we are notified within 24 hours of your day fishing trip. Cruise ships sometimes unexpectedly cancel their stop in Belize. If for some unexpected reason this happens, please call Yellow Dog directly and let staff know. If the guide has not left for the day, we can refund your trip (minus $25). If cancellation is not made 24 hours in advance and the guide waits for the angler, the no-show/cancellation fee is $200.00
Payment Terms for All Yellow Dog Trip Bookings
Unless otherwise noted on your invoice, for all trips less than 90 days out, full payment is required after receipt of the confirmation email to secure guides and reservations. For trips outside of 90 days, a 50% deposit is required upon receipt of confirmation email to confirm your reservations.
Yellow Dog accepts on-line payments via a secure payment portal – a quick and easy way to complete your trip reservation. Please reach out to accounting@yellowdogflyfishing.com to gain access.
