Lodging Details
Lodging at Faraway Cayes is best described as a rustic luxury basecamp. Guests stay in one of two Western Shelter yurts, strategically placed to enjoy the sunrise and sunsets. The yurts sit on platforms overlooking the home flats. A stay in a Faraway Cayes luxury yurt is one of the only places we know where you can regularly spot bonefish from the deck of a lodge.
Food and Beverages
The chef and staff at Faraways are excellent. Like Faraway Cayes land-based operation, the lodge chefs and staff have been trained by several culinary professionals flown in from the United States. Using local delights such as lobster and fresh fish, vegetables, and local fruit, the chefs put together a fantastic and diverse menu. Breakfasts and dinners are served in a screened-in dining and bar area, while lunches are either had on the water or at the lodge between fishing sessions.
Typical Length of Stay
A standard trip is six (6) nights / six (6) fishing days while at Faraway.
Non-Angling Activities and Options
This trip is ideal for hard-core anglers, as not much else exists at Faraway Cayes. There is some excellent snorkeling that can be done for those that are interested, but most visitors to Faraway Cayes come for the fishing.
Internet / Communications
No internet or cell phone service exists at Faraway. If you must communicate, travel with a sat phone.
How To Get There
Guests fly to Roatan, Honduras (RTN), which has direct flights from several major US airports. The itinerary for a Faraway Cays trip is a 7-night total trip, Saturday to Saturday including an overnight stay in Roatan.
Sample Itinerary: Guests fly-in on Saturday and spend the night at a hotel. Sunday morning, fly out to Faraway Cayes, approximately an hour and twenty-minute helicopter flight. Upon arrival, you will fish for a full day. Monday thru Thursday are full fishing days. Friday, fish half to two-thirds day and then fly back via helicopter to Roatan, where you will spend the night. Saturday, depart Roatan for home.
Documents Required
A valid passport is required for all visitors to Honduras and must be valid for at least six (6) months beyond the duration of your stay. Citizens of the U.S., the British Commonwealth, and Canada are NOT required to have Visas.

General Information
The Faraway Cayes can offer some incredible opportunities at permit and bonefish, both on foot and from the boat. There are over 12 square miles of flats in the fishery, all offering prime habitat for flats species. These expansive flats are surrounded by coral walls that drop off into deep water. This access to deep water means fish regularly move onto the floats. Faraway Cayes bonefish are numerous and eager to jump onto a well-presented fly. These fish are larger than many other areas in Central America, averaging 3-6 pounds along with some larger fish pushing double digits. Although bonefish and permit are the main targets at Faraway, plenty of other species swim on the flats. Several types of jacks, snappers, large barracudas, lots of triggerfish, and even an occasional large tarpon will be spotted off the reef in deeper water. Permit run from small schoolie-sized fish on up to some very large ones, with plenty of sizes in between.
Most of the bonefishing is done on foot, but when pursuing permit, anglers spend about half the time from the boat and half the time wading. Permit shots are a mix of stalking tailing fish, casting to fish on spotted Eagle rays, and finding small to large schools of various sizes of fish. The bottom is a mix of hard sand, coral, and turtle grass so wading is not difficult but sturdy wading boots are a must.
Boats and Equipment
The boats at Faraway Cayes are 18’ custom-made pangas with 70 HP engines, outfitted with poling platforms, and lean bars. These boats offer an elevated position for anglers to fish from and are perfectly designed for running the flats and the rougher water outside of the reef when running from flat to flat. They are smooth-riding, comfortable, and ideal for fishing the Faraway Cayes.
