General Information
A lovely guesthouse and hotel located on the lagoon (backside) of the island, the Sea Dreams Hotel is the base of operations for our Caye Caulker fishing and lodging packages. The Sea Dreams offers a rare combination of easy access and laid-back tranquility, with a friendly staff, a rooftop bar, a private dock, and one of the best locations in the entire village. Spend the day lounging around the famous “Split” and then retreat to the comfortable and well-appointed accommodations of the Hotel just a few steps away. Original paintings by local artists adorn the colorful walls of the rooms and apartments, which are small, but clean and comfortable. Guests are invited to enjoy glorious sunset views from the private dock or over drinks at the rooftop lounge. Breakfast, bike, and canoe use are included. When staying at the Sea Dreams Hotel, there are a number of different accommodations and room options:
Courtyard Rooms
Surrounding a sacred Banyan tree built in the middle of the hotel’s structure, the five courtyard rooms are the perfect options for a couple (one queen-sized bed), a single traveler, or two friends (two twin beds). These are the least expensive, most high-value rooms at the hotel.
One Bedroom Apartments
The Sea Dreams Hotel features two one-bedroom apartments. Perfect for dining on a hardwood table, resting in the sanctuary of a private bedroom, or lounging on the futon couch. A bit more space and more amenities than the Courtyard Rooms.
Two-Bedroom Apartment
The Hotel’s two-bedroom apartment is the most spacious accommodation option and features sea views on two sides. The large living area has a full kitchen, dining table, and an oversized couch, making this the ideal hang-out spot for a family or a group of friends. Amenities include air conditioning and overhead fans, Wi-Fi, cable television, a mini-fridge stocked with beer and soda for sale, a coffee maker, the highest quality sheets and towels, and more.
Orchid Cabana
Nestled beside the hotel, the cabana is raised nine feet off the ground. A thatch roof shades a large private veranda and creates the ideal area for enjoying the views and the ocean. Inside, the cabana is full of amenities, including a full kitchen, table and chairs, private bath, queen-size bed, Wi-Fi, and flatscreen TV.
Food and Beverages
Breakfast is included with all of these hotel and fishing packages and is typically served early before each day on the water. Lunch is then packed for the day on the water and usually includes sandwiches, chips, cookies, sodas, and bottled water. Dinner each night is on your own, and you can choose from a large number of restaurants in the village of Caye Caulker. There are dozens of choices, and all are within easy walking distance of the hotel. All local liquors, beer, soda, and mixers served at the hotel’s roof-top bar are included in the cost of your overall Caye Caulker trip package.
Typical Length of Stay
While the hotel requests a three (3) night minimum stay, fishing and hotel packages of any number of nights and guided fishing days can be arranged. You can also arrive and depart on any day of the week.
Non-Angling Activities and Options
Activities available on the island of Caye Caulker include PADI-certified diving and snorkel trips, naturalist excursions, bicycling, and more. Amenities at the lodge include a great swimming pier and sitting area, a rooftop indoor/outdoor bar area, complimentary Wi-Fi, and the use of bicycles and canoes. The hotel can also organize golf cart rentals for trips around the island.
Internet / Communications
Wi-Fi is available free of charge for hotel guests. Please bring your own laptop or smartphone to access the internet. Depending on your service plan, most cell phones will also work in Caye Caulker.

General Information
Much like the waters that surround Ambergris Caye, the waters of Caye Caulker are probably best known for tarpon. Within minutes of leaving the island, anglers are poling across healthy, classic-style tarpon flats: four to six feet deep, covered with sand and mottled turtle grass, with consistently crystal-clear waters. Stretching north towards Ambergris, south towards Long Caye, and west towards Belize City, these productive tarpon grounds extend out from Caye Caulker for over fifty miles.
In addition to the area’s healthy tarpon fishery, there are also great permit opportunities in the waters close to Caye Caulker. Permit are found throughout the area, especially during the spring and early summer months. Measures to enhance the protection of the species have rapidly evolved this permit fishery. In conjunction with solid conservation efforts, the guides of Caye Caulker continue to hone their skills with regard to permit fishing. While initially a tarpon-focused destination, the Caye Caulker fishing “mindset” has definitely shifted more to permit in recent years. The permit fishing in this area is not like southern Belize, where fish are oftentimes found in the super-shallow waters that are fished according to the tides. In the Caye Caulker area, permit are usually found in three to six feet of water, cruising and feeding over a variety of different bottoms including shallow grass, hard crunchy bottoms, and even submerged rock structures and caves. And while a moving tide is important, it is definitely not as crucial as it is in other areas.
Bonefishing is available throughout the year, although somewhat limited by the size of the fishery. There are a handful of productive and dependable bonefish flats located to the south and the west of the island, although most areas require a boat for access. It should be mentioned that while there are a handful of do-it-yourself fishing opportunities and small flats that can be accessed by wading from Caye Caulker, it is much easier to fish the area with a boat and a guide.
As the island has evolved over the years, so too has the fishing infrastructure and services available to the traveling angler. In the early 2000s, there was little opportunity for technical fishing on the island and few guides even knew what fly fishing was. Over the past several years, however, this has definitely changed, and the island has become a much more serious fishing destination. Caye Caulker and the waters that surround the tiny island are fast becoming a fly fishing hot spot in Belize, as more anglers discover the area and the fishing and guide options continue to develop. With little pressure from other guide operations or the anglers that visit Ambergris and the Belize City area, this is a fishery that has definitely earned a place on the list of Belize’s top angling destinations.
Boats and Equipment
Guides fish from 23-foot Mexican super pangas, outfitted with large and spacious casting decks and poling platforms for the guides. It is recommended that anglers bring their own equipment and tackle to the island, although flies and a basic selection of terminal tackle can be purchased through the hotel’s “Angler’s Abroad” fly shop.
