How To Get There
Most travel to Andros Island’s Andros Town Airport (ASD) should route through Nassau International Airport (NAS) due to the frequent flights and reasonable costs. Whether flying into San Andros (Western Air), Andros Town-Fresh Creek (LeAir), Mangrove Cay (Flamingo and LeAir), or Congo Town (Western Air), there are two flights daily into every small airport on Andros. The first flight is typically early in the morning (approximately 6:30 AM) and the second is usually scheduled for later in the afternoon (approximately 3:30 PM). We always suggest a buffer of at least two hours between all arriving flights and departing connecting flights while in Nassau. Charter flights from Florida to Andros can also be arranged. Contact Yellow Dog for more information.
Arrival and Departure Details / Times
Once you arrive at Andros, any taxi at the airport will deliver you to the resort. On departure day, make sure to leave ample time for connecting flights on your return trip, due to customs and immigration. We recommend at least 1.5 hours to deal with departure and immigration procedures. Private air charters can be arranged by contacting Yellow Dog. Kamalame is a short 30-minute ride from the Andros Town Airport (ASD).
Documents Required
All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport that does not expire within six (6) months of trip dates. Please be sure that your passport has at least two blank, unstamped pages remaining in the back, and that it is not torn, delaminated or damaged in any way.

General Information
Andros Island, located approximately 150 miles east of the Florida Keys, is one of the world’s premier bonefish destinations. This Bahamian Island, which is over 100 miles long and in places, up to 40 miles wide, consists of vast areas of flats, creeks, cays, cuts, mangroves, and incredibly fertile fishing grounds. Kamalame Cay Resort, situated on the northeast corner of the island, allows access by skiff to many flats that are relatively close to the Resort’s dock, or alternately by trailering the boat to the Joulters Cays or the West Side of Andros.
When fishing during a stay at Kamalame, there are numerous options from which to choose. You may start your day from the resort’s dock and fish the oceanside flats and inland creeks along the eastern shore of Andros. These flats hold large and aggressive ocean bones that feed around sandy, coral shorelines adjacent to deeper water. Inland waters and lagoons are accessed via creeks and channels that run across the island. Smaller schooling fish can be targeted in the inner mangroves and protected flats areas at all times of the year. These inland waters provide excellent protection on windy days.
Another option is to drive north to the famous Joulters Cays, a collection of small islands just north of Andros that is surrounded by endless white sand flats that seem to blend into the horizon. The Joulters might be one of the most populated areas for bonefish in the world, and tailing and large schooling fish can be found in abundance.
Trailering a boat to nearby Red Bays allows easy access to the Andros’ famed and wild West Side with minimal running time. This side of the island is acknowledged as one of the top “trophy bonefish” areas in the world. The west coast is also one of the better destinations in the Bahamas for tarpon fishing, which usually is best from April through August.
One of our favorite aspects of the Resort is the vast, nearby home flats, which allow anglers to wade-fish the backside of Kamalame Cay while non-fishing family or friends enjoy the beach, pool, or spa. These flats are a short walk from your accommodations and calculating the prime times relating to the tides will afford great fishing for relatively short periods of time. You can also drive the cart path that runs along the flats in a golf cart. Cruise the path with your 8-weight and a cooler of beer, hunting for tails, and nervous water on your own.
Boats and Equipment
Anglers are targeting the flats fish from Maverick skiffs with 75HP Yamaha engines. The offshore fishing program at Kamalame utilizes a 24-foot Pathfinder V-hull center console and is rigged and outfitted with tackle. Yellow Dog recommends that anglers bring all of their gear and equipment, including rods, reels, wading boots, flies, and all terminal tackle.
